On Saturday 18th June, staff of SG-SSB celebrated the Citizen Commitment week by visiting the Centre for Abused Children in Osu, Accra.
This Centre is a temporary shelter run by the Department of Social Welfare since October 2003. The shelter serves as a referral point for organizations working to protect the interest of children in the country, especially the Domestic Violence & Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service. These agencies normally request for care and protection for victims of child abuse whiles their cases are pending proceedings. The children are taken through psycho-social and medical rehabilitation.
This year, staff from the Bank helped counsel the children and kept their promise to the shelter last year by renovating and refurbishing the ICT Centre. Staff eagerly helped to paint, restore worn out windows and doors, ceilings and cleared around the area. Staff of the bank also presented carefully selected used clothing to the Centre.
SG-SSB Staff, children and teachers of the centre played a football match well to the admiration of all present.
The Managing Director of the bank, Mr Gilbert Hie also made a speech to support the event and recognized the great involvement of the staff.
A buffet lunch was also organized for all the children, staff of the centre and staff of SG-SSB. In all, about a hundred staff of SG-SSB took part in the activities which took about six hours to complete. Through this contribution, SG-SSB believes wants to add a personal touch and hence its presence with them in addition to donating material things.
