The Societe Generale Corporate Foundation has supported Fondation Espérance banlieues since November 2015.

Founded in 2012, Fondation Espérance banlieues created an innovative school model specialised in preventing pupils from dropping out of school and in the social and cultural integration of young people, a model which it continues to develop. The pilot school, Cours Alexandre-Dumas, which opened in Montfermeil (Seine-Saint-Denis) in September 2012, now has over 130 pupils. The second Espérance banlieues school, Cours Frédéric-Ozanam, opened in the underprivileged north of Marseille in 2014. “La Cordée”, an independent school located in a poor neighbourhood of the northern French town of Roubaix and Antoine-de-Saint-Exupéry school in the Parisian suburb of Asnières sur Seine both opened in 2015.

The organisation encourages the development of high-quality independent schools in the heart of the most challenging neighbourhoods and strives to offer all suburban children access to an excellent education by providing educational, legal and financial support.

The schools provide pupils with individual support for their social and cultural integration thanks to small class sizes, very available teachers, and their parents’ involvement in their education.

The Societe Generale Foundation has supported the organisation’s integration through art project in the municipality of Clichy-Montfermeil (Seine-Saint-Denis) since November 2015.

As part of this project, Fondation Espérance Banlieue has developed an educational programme based on studying paintings and learning to paint which aims to support young people’s cultural and social integration. The project consists of designing an artistic and cultural discovery course for pupils who are at high risk of dropping out of school or who have already dropped out. The pupils study famous classical and contemporary works selected for their educational value.

Over 90 lower secondary school pupils from Cours Alexandre-Dumas have received support for their social and cultural integration through this programme.
