As part of the Citizen Commitment Games––a sports and charity challenge held to celebrate Societe Generale’s 150th anniversary––employees raise money for an association and take part in a sports competition.
Every week, discover an association supported by employees taking part in the Citizen Commitment Games.
Like Sport dans la Ville in France, the Treichville Biafra Olympique (TBO) Association has been using sport to advance education for youths from Biafra, the underprivileged area of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, since 1993. TBO used its connections with directors of rugby schools and designed a project to teach rugby, which is receiving support from Societe Generale.
Every Wednesday, the 70 youths in the programme go to a practice session given by a specialised trainer and then have a snack together at the end. The association is also making plans to have a certified teacher provide afterschool tutoring for the children four nights a week.
TBO is also committed to improving the living conditions for these children and paying for degree programmes so they can find long-term stable jobs. The programme relies on its network of partner companies to provide job placement for its best students.
In addition to the support it receives from the Group's subsidiary in Côte d’Ivoire (SGBI), TBO has signed an agreement with Enfants de l’ovale to create a partnership for rugby-related activities in an effort to help develop a solid logistics structure (maintenance for the stadium/facilities, etc.). Every season in November, they organise two tournaments together for the youths in the programme.
The employees at de are supporting the association as part of the Citizen Commitment Games.
