As part of the Citizen Commitment Games––a sports and charity challenge held to celebrate Societe Generale’s 150th anniversary––employees raise money for an association and take part in a sports competition.
Every week, discover an association supported by employees taking part in the Citizen Commitment Games.
Created in 1979, Espace 19 is a secular and apolitical association for public education that promotes socio-economic diversity, neighbourhood solidarity, intercultural relations and civic awareness in Paris. It works in the heart of underprivileged areas, including the 19th Arrondissement of Paris, where almost 30 % of the population lives below the poverty line. In 2011, 1,299 families, including 425 families receiving the most basic benefits, received support from these community centres.
The Societe Generale Foundation for Solidarity has twice provided support (in 2012 and 2014) for the ‘Pass For Employment’ project, which focuses on creating programmes for professional integration. French language workshops for vocational purposes are run to help prepare the beneficiaries to sit the professional French language studies diploma (DELF). In addition, the association offers training on basic computer skills. Finally, a specialised advisor offers personalised support on an individual basis to help provide access to training courses and job opportunities.
In 2013, Espace 19 received support from Talents & Partage, the Societe Generale pensioners' association, and was a winner at the 2013 Citizen Commitment Awards. It also benefitted from a sponsored skills transfer day run by volunteer Societe Generale employees and jointly organised with Pro Bono Lab.
