Enabling Enterprise is a British association founded in 2009 by a group of teachers. Its objective is to help students improve their employability and skills by assisting them with the creation of small enterprises.
In 2013, the United Kingdom subsidiary of Societe Generale, a sponsor of Enabling Enterprise since 2010, hosted around twenty workshops on its premises, which were created by the association not for students, but for children ages 6 to 11. In 2013, a total of 89 employees volunteered to give 4 hours of their time to help schoolchildren of between 6 and 11 years old put together a project called Snack Shop Challenge.
The objective was to contribute to the development of key skills for the children by making them think about a universe they knew little about: the world of work.
The last workshop of the year took place on the premises of the British subsidiary on 3 December 2013, with the children spending a day with 6 Group employees to design and put down on paper their own snack shop.
The day aroused the interest of the young beneficiaries, with one of them remarking, “when I am in a different place, I can concentrate more easily”. The employees also enjoy these types of activities, “the day was incredible”, said one female employee, “it was an enriching experience and the children were great”.
