The Societe Generale Corporate Foundation for Solidarity board met last Friday 15 November. A brief glance at three projects they chose to support for the last board meeting of 2013:

SOS Villages d’Enfants Morocco

There are now 5 SOS children’s villages inMoroccowhich host and support children who have no family of their own, and who reside in SOS villages until they start high school. They then live in public boarding facilities and are supported by the organisation until they find employment.

Project funded: Mentoring and professional integration of young people without families

53 young people benefit from this pathway to employment programme, which combines educational  supervision, career guidance and social integration. They receive mentoring during high school school and throughout their higher education or vocational training, with extra tutoring at school if needed. They attend individual and group sessions where they draw up a personal development and career plan to prepare for their entry into the sphere of employment, and attend 3 careers guidance workshops each year which introduce different vocations and the entry routes into various professions, in addition to teaching job search techniques. Each young person goes on a work placement which provides them with a  qualification, and  is supervised by the organisation from the moment they start looking for employment until they find a job at the end of the work placement. Furthermore, the organisation organises holiday camps and solidarity projects in the summer, and takes care of the beneficiaries’ medical needs.

Apprentis d'Auteuil

Apprentis d’Auteuil houses, educates, trains and re-integrates nearly 14,000 young people facing social, family-related or educational difficulties at their 200 locations. Each young person is given a tailored programme to develop life skills and know-how in the vocational area of their choice.

Project funded:Eco-construction and eco-renovation for the successful integration of young people

This project encompasses the training and  professional integration of nearly 500 young people in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. The Apprentis d’Auteuil Foundation is opening a construction industry vocational training centre in Loos-en-Gohelle which will teach eco-construction, eco-renovation and renewable energy techniques. The young apprentices will have the option of living in young workers’ residence halls in either Liévin or La Bassée near the training centre,  to offer them greater independence. In addition to the training they receive at the vocational training centre, the young people will receive enhanced support from Apprentis d'Auteuil professional staff.

Proxité assists young people from disadvantaged areas by setting up mentoring by professional volunteers. Depending on the age and needs of the beneficiaries, support may take the shape of assistance with school work, career guidance and/or professional integration.

Project funded: Development of 4 mentoring centres in the Paris region

Proxité intends to continue to extend its work in places where there are underprivileged areas adjacent to business districts. The charity would first of all like to pursue the development of 2 recent locations, Noisy-le-Grand and La Plaine-Saint-Denis, by enhancing relationships with local partners, identifying new channels for supporting young people, finding more suitable premises and seeking volunteers and partner businesses. Proxité also hopes to launch its mentoring initiative in 2 new areas by the beginning of 2014: Hauts-de-Seine (Asnières/Gennevilliers) and Val-de-Marne (Ivry/Vitry). To do so, they need to carry out a feasability study with local councils, business and potential partners and other stakeholders, and identify a location and premises.
