Societe Generale hosted its 4th Annual Asia Pacific Charity Bike Ride in Seoul, Korea on 12 and 13 October 2013. To date, the event has raised over 100,000 euros for different charity partners in Asia such as the Bukbu Community Welfare Centre in Korea. Established in 1983, it supports underprivileged families with educational support.
This year, around 160 participants from Korea, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, India and France took part in the bike ride and rode more than 120 kilometres along the Han River in Seoul over the course of two days. These participants were made up of employees, domestic clients and business partners of Societe Generale as well as public officials.
Hikaru Ogata, Chief Executive Officer of Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking for Asia Pacific, said: “Societe Generale strongly believes that contributing to the community is a meaningful way to give back to those who have helped support its business. The annual charity bike ride is just one of the ways which the bank demonstrates its commitment to being a good corporate citizen and supporting a worthy cause.”
In Asia, Societe Generale first organised its annual charity bike ride in 2010. After an edition in China (2010), Cambodia (2011), then Taiwan (2012), Korea was chosen for this year’s charity bike ride to coincide with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Group’s entry into the Korean market and the granting of a new business licence from the Republic of Korea’s Financial Services Commission in July 2013.
