Financial literacy – a daily concern for the Societe Generale Foundation

 

Keen to support acts of solidarity focused on team work, innovation, responsibility and commitment, Societe Generale is very aware of the issues around financial literacy. In France, the company works with the debt counselling association CRESUS through Dilemme® an interdisciplinary support project that aims to raise the awareness of people in difficulty about how to manage their finances.

 

Shaping responsible citizens

 

The bank’s core role is to offer long-term support to customers and protect them by anticipating difficult situations. In this way, through its foundation established in 2006, Societe Generale is committed to educating young people and adults about good money management through financial literacy initiatives. So, it went to École 42 (established by Xavier Niel in 2013) to present a financial literacy session to its students in collaboration with the CRESUS association. The students put their management skills to the test by playing the Dilemme® Education boardgame based on the Dilemme® financial literacy programme, which has been involved in the Societe Generale skills-based sponsorship programmes since 2013.

 

 

Dilemme® - an innovative and supportive programme

 

With the aim of “building a better society with more independent, responsible citizens,” the Dilemme® programme has trained more than 400,000 students since its inception. Over 4,000 beneficiaries, including young apprentices aged 16 to 25 years old, have been made aware of the issues surrounding money management in personal finance workshops led by Societe Generale employees and teams from Dilemme®. And it’s a process that has proven its worth, since Dilemme® was a semi-finalist at the LEGO Foundation’s “Re-Imagine Learning Challenge” in 2014 and CRESUS’ commitment has been recognised by the Héros de Notre Temps prize, winning the award in 2015.
